August 28
It’s been a bit. I’ve been under the weather and we were working on just keeping afloat. Thanks for the sweet check in’s.
Tate finished her IV antibiotics last Thursday and pretty quickly started not feeling great and having intermittent low blood pressures again. A recap with her med team and the oddities of how this last infection presented, landed on low blood pressures being a sign we need to take seriously.
Yesterday we saw hematology and labs showed her white count is doubled and her body is responding to something. Remember that blood culture bottle shortage? It took special approval to get 1 culture drawn (usually 2.) I fully expected to wake to a phone call with a positive culture but so far have only woken to to a 70/50 blood pressure. Her last infection, only one culture initially grew, so this is a hard, but familiar place to sit, wondering what tomorrow will bring. Fluids and steroids to the rescue….once again.
We did get to see nurse Kristen yesterday. She was Tates very first infusion nurse ever…when she was 9. Not many nurses, or kids, hang around CCBD that long. We’re always grateful for all the new friends, but it’s nice to see someone who’s been there through the entire walk.
