Day 3

I knew the moment I got up this morning and looked at Tate that she was in worse shape. Her face was 1/2 obscured by her mask but I could see how pale she was. She slept all day, only asking for pain meds.

As is usually the case, Tate had the a great nurse that we love for day two meaning she already knew us. So, Tim came and we spent a good hour outside walking the CU campus and another 30 minutes chatting with staff in the Seacrest studio. Tim came back upstairs to say goodbye, but Tate hardly opened her eyes.

Lab worked hard overnight to isolate the bacteria in Tates blood as it wasn’t showing up on any of the more common screens. They found it. Acinetobacter. Not common and very very resistant to most antibiotics and has scary outcomes when it doesn’t respond to treatment. They changed Tates antibiotics today and we wait for sensitivity to come back to know if she’s on the best antibiotic for her…hopefully tomorrow.

Tate started running a fever this evening and ate nothing today. With a central line, kids have to change linens, have a bath and use anti microbial wipes all over their bodies daily…no matter how they feel. We did that and fever had started climbing. Thirty minutes later fever broke and she was hungry. PTL! My hope is that the antibiotics are already starting to help, are indeed the correct ones and are turning this early infection right around. The more I learn about this bacteria, the more I feel like getting Tate here when we did so this was found really pre obvious infection symptoms was definitely part of a bigger plan. But she can definitely still use the prayers to kick this bug out as we’re seeing more symptoms developing and labs shifting.

The rest of the reasons we actually were originally admitted for are still on the table….Tate will remain on steroids now due to infection and tonight she is actually closer to hypertensive-thanks to this infection. Pain remains a problem. More on that later. Last night was very long for tate. She’s already fast asleep. I’m praying in between pain meds, she can stay that way. Thank you for your encouraging words and prayers.
