Day 5
Another new IV antibiotic was started tonight after sensitivities finally were confirmed. Ivig day 2 is almost finished and we are one day closer to going home.
We were able to get a better pain regimen in place during the night with calls to Tates pain Dr. Super thankful for a pain Dr. that gets her and is compassionate to her situation. We have a decision this weekend to make on if we add in another pain med when we do the pump refill this coming week. It’s been up for discussion for a while. It’s a strong one and is typically used in hospice situations. We’re feeling a little defeated currently that Tate has an Implanted IT pump (that was such a tough surgery to get through) that runs constantly but she’s also back on oral/IV narcotics. This new med could get her back to just the IT but could come with some CNS side effects. Medically…nothing is ever free.
Blood pressure was why we had to pull back on the IT pump boluses upon admission. She came into the hospital at 70/40. Her BP has been climbing and tonight is 140/100. Due to Tate’s kidney issues and high blood pressure, she was on BP meds before the IT pump. It looks like now she may be headed there again. Everyday it’s a new vital that is wanting to cause a scene.
Tate did eat a bit more today and even did a little mini crafting. We know how quickly things can always shift again but are so thankful to see her improving a bit. TPN showed up in conversation again so I’m hopeful she can just keep eating and doesn’t end up back on IV nutrition.
Saturdays are so full for Tim and tomorrow is confirmation which means extra. But we were able to have Tim with us for a bit this morning. Tate wasn’t awake again for much of his visit but dad's can't leave without a kiss, even if a sleepy one.
