Keira Update 4
We got a new view this evening! Keira is out of the ICU and onto the neurology floor. Hallelujah!! Although, we loved the nurses and staff in the ICU and will miss seeing them. A little more privacy and tonight should be a quieter night if…..we can convince them to turn down the heart rate alarms. Last night, Keira’s HR was regularly hanging out at 36, 37, etc while sleeping. Her transfer out of the ICU was delayed because of concern over her low heart rate and also due to her showing some arrhythmias. Cardiology tested and consulted and said it’s all benign and she has an “athletes heart.” Another Hallelujah.
In order to transfer out of the ICU today, Keira had to eat. Her neurosurgeon put her food tray in front of her, raised the head of her bed and told her to “eat!” She did and that box was checked. She did a walking loop with a physical therapist and that box was checked too. We are really really praying she can be discharged tomorrow and we can check the rest of the boxes outpatient. She tried hard to convince the team that she should just be discharged from the ICU. They want at least one more day to keep an eye on her here. I’ve included pics of Keira’s surgical site. If you’re squeamish…just skip those tonight.
I actually didn’t get to see Drew or Tate today. Tate is wiped, so some extra sleep and no walking will hopefully help her joints to be a bit happier. Drew kept her company as Tim was mostly at the hospital with K and I. The tpn/iv fluid saga with Tate continues. In order to get the next Homecare delivery, I have to take her to the children’s hospital ER 45 minutes away. I can’t fathom going to another hospital with another child unless necessary. I desperately don’t want to go. Tate of course doesn’t either. My decision making skills are tired so perhaps tomorrow will lend new perspective. One kiddo at a time.
