1 Year +292
We have a little more direction this morning.…bacteria was finally identified as an uncommon form of staph. The team was actually hoping it was the same, more common, staph infection she had a year ago, but it isn’t. This is further complicated by her echocardiogram results. She has some kind of sheath or growth in her heart that isn’t attached to her line. So they now are working to rule in or out infective endocarditis. Basically a bacterial infection in Tates heart. She had a clot a year ago on a central line they ended up removing that didn’t show again on an echo in March-but they are now thinking a poor angle missed it and this could be residual. It could still be carrying bacteria or. Best case is it’s clean and just hanging out. Thankfully the antibiotics she’s been on are the correct ones for the blood infection for now but she can’t go home on these. So we wait to see if sensitivity shows to something else that will work that is compatible with home infusion. Sounds like this line is going to be pulled. Pulling it increases our stay and carries other risks but ID believes leaving it comes with a strong likelihood that the infection will just come back.
Today we’re waiting on Infectious Disease, cardiology and rheumatology.
Right as I was finishing this, Tates GI Dr. Stopped in. She’s not on service this week so it took extra time and effort out of her crazy schedule for her to come in. She knows how difficult restarting tpn/lipids was for us. This woman speaks my language. She is direct and to the point with kindness and genuine care for us. She made my day. Really am grateful for the kind faces that love my girl.
