1:30 this morning we were moved upstairs to a room. I could’ve kissed the CA that had my couch bed all pulled out, made and ready for me! Huge middle of the night mom win!
Bacterial:
Tate’s cultures grew meaning she has a bacterial blood infection. She’s on a couple iv antibiotics until they figure out exactly what this bacteria is sensitive to. They’ll draw cultures twice a day but are thinking this line is seeded and will likely have to be removed. But it’s a couple days to even get to that point.
Fungal:
Labs from last week are still pending and they’ll add more today. They’re hopeful that this fungus that grew in Tates urine is a false positive. The antifungals she’d need for this fungus don’t play nice with her daily meds. So it all gets a bit complicated. Really praying for a false positive. Fungal is scary and hard to get rid of. But we are SO very thankful that this was “found” to be vetted out if it’s real as the repercussions of missing it are dire.
Tate had an echo of her heart this morning to look for endocarditis and clots. She may land on an ultrasound to look at the line as you can sometimes see infection that way.
Probably the most emotional news this morning is that they’re putting Tate back on TPN. This is IV fat and calories. Tate just isn’t able to keep up with what her body needs through oral intake or tube feeds. For those that have been with us for awhile, you’ll recall that she was on tpn through transplant and for over a year afterwards. We worked really hard to get her off of it a little over 6 months ago. There was some emotion and a little bargaining to not go home on it, but we’ll have to see what happens. It makes everything more difficult and adds an extra layer of risks and infection. But…we need Tate to have the reserves she needs to fight illness and even get through this big surgery coming up. It’s just so defeating to feel like we’re constantly slipping back down the hill.
