Medically speaking, outside of IV antibiotics, today felt like a bit of a wash. But boring isn’t always bad in the hospital! This morning Tate spiked another high fever over 103. Then woke hours later, cold and sweaty with a body temp of 95. All signs of infection. Her new labs from last night further support sepsis. The team believes the RSV is leftover from her fevers in Florida and really not related to our current situation. Ortho was in at 4 this morning to reasses the hip situation again after the breakthrough fever. They may scan again but feels like we’re landing further away from that as the infection source. There’s definitely inflammation in her hip which could be rheumatological and not infection. They’ve talked about a needle aspiration into Tates joint ti check the fluid.
Tates blood cultures are shockingly still no growth, so the team is discussing fungal cultures. Rare in dry CO, but you know….. Tate tried hard today to do the normal. A few bites of food and some interaction with those around her. But for those who know her best, it’s evident how lousy she still feels. The plan is to continue to run the antibiotics and support her kidneys with fluids, stop any nephrotoxic meds and reassess again tomorrow.
The Avalanche were on campus today! Tate can’t leave her room, but they came to her. Thank you to Makar and Lehkonen. So kind of them to share their day. They brought Tate a Bernie mascot in exchange for some smiles. Tim was thrilled to be here too!
