Day 86
Post BMT +23
We have GREAT news! Tate’s chimerism came back today and showed 95% donor cells. This is huge and exactly what we prayed for. Thank you Jesus! This makes the exhaustion, worry and daily grind a little easier to push through knowing there is an end to this long road. We don’t know yet what will be resolved from an autoimmune standpoint, but we can feel confident that this transplant eradicated the MDS, the bone marrow cancer.
Tate continues to retain a lot of fluid. She’s currently pretty puffy despite diuretics. Daily she battles pain and nausea. She sleeps most of the day and rarely engages in conversation. She doesn’t watch TV or play on her phone. Most of her Birthday gifts and cards remain unopened. It’s so hard to see her this way every day. She is working hard at small goals each day. She tried a tiny bite of both watermelon and macaroni tonight. One of these days something will taste good and her stomach will agree. She’ll keep trying. She walked 10 feet to the bathroom twice today. We moved her tacrolimus (anti rejection med) from IV to go through her G-tube. We’re hoping this helps with the neuropathy. Baby steps.
Lilly went home today. No infection! Like Tate, her body makes it’s own rules. Even minor procedures like placing the port throw her immune system into turmoil. Thank you for praying for her!
