Day 78

Transplant +15

ICU Day 10 and unit transfer.

I posted the quick update and video this morning at 8:30. By 9:45 rounds, Tate had a rash and started vomiting more frequently. As the day progressed, It was evident Tate was running a fever. She seemed to feel worse as the day went on. We did get up to our new room in the BMT unit this evening. So nice to be back to what and who are most familiar to us. We had one of our favorite nurses tonight and will have her for the next 3 days. Always a bonus!

Tate’s team thinks she has engraftment syndrome. This can run the gamut from mild to serious. They’ll keep an eye on things the next few days to see where she lands. On top of everything else, it makes you feel like you have a bad flu with vomiting and diarrhea. When the cells come in too fast, they cause systemic inflammation which results in the symptoms Tate has. They can treat with steroids and will if necessary, but that also delays cell growth.

These bumps along the way are well known and in this world, pretty normal. Tate has never sat in a place where she ever felt like getting so sick would lead to recovery or something good. It’s a little hard to wrap your head around the fact that trudging through all this is going to lead her to a place of health. We are trying to trust the process and above all else, we have faith in God’s plan for Tate.

Tate STILL hasn’t gotten to the Birthday packages and cards. We’ve received a lot! Trust yours has arrived. I’ll try to let you all know once she feels well enough to open them. Thank you!!!
