Day 15

Happy Valentines Day!

The hospital always does a great job of creating memories on holidays. Tate made it downstairs today for the Valentines Pawty. All the therapy dogs were there minus Pringle who was having his own pawty at North.

Tate received some beautiful flowers and thoughtful gifts today. And we received some extra hugs from sweet friends that happened to be on campus. Our hearts were filled up on this day of Love.

By noon we had rounded with so many specialists. More labs sent and lots of discussion. The MRI showed Tate has fluid in her knees…no real surprise. Her knees are always painful and regularly swollen. Her rheum labs show her lupus could be active again. Her white count is still elevated for her and she continues on the blood thinner injections (Lovenox) and continual antibiotics. Today was day 1 of ivig.

A fentanyl patch was added today to try to give Tate a more steady state of pain management. This feels like moving backwards and brought some resigned tears. We’ll gradually switch from the iv pain meds to this patch. Tate does deal with some side effects from the IT pain pump. So just increasing that continually isn’t a current option. Her boluses were already increased this admission.

We are waiting on special repeat labs to come back to direct next steps. The weekend should be fairly quiet with anything new and early next week we should have some more direction to share.
