Day 112
Post BMT +50 (continued)
Today is best described as a hot mess. Tate was absolutely miserable. The jury is still out as to if this is withdrawal or something viral. Adding in some big boluses of dilaudid helped Tate to sleep briefly which broke the vomiting cycle and allowed her to keep down some THC and further control the vomiting. It’s kind of a miserable combination actually because you still feel like you are on the verge of getting sick, but physically are unable. Covid, and c-diff are negative. The rest aren’t back yet. We don’t think this is bacterial but 1st blood cultures will be back tonight. Tate was finally able to fall into a drug induced sleep around 3:30 and has been sleeping mostly since. She stirs to tell me how lousy she feels and then is back to sleep. I’m praying with the right meds she will actually sleep tonight. It’s been an extremely long day!
Here’s the good stuff! Tate is off the pca and pain pump as her boluses were moved to IV. 9 months! 9 months she was connected to a pain pump 24/7. I could cry out of Thanksgiving. She’s still on narcotics, but this means no hospice and when she isn’t connected for nutrition requirements, line freedom once we’re discharged. I announced to Tate this morning with a fist pump that she was off the pump. She responded with a not so gentle greeting towards her blue bag companion. So for now, the celebration is on hold. But I am giving thanks in this moment!
