Bleeding increased again today so Tate’s nephrologist sent us to North campus ER for some tests. We were told we’d be transferred to main only if what was found was potentially surgical. After over 8 hours, Tate was transferred by ambulance to Main campus. She has a hematoma in the biopsied kidney. The hematoma is being fed by an artery that shouldn’t be there. It is feeding the hematoma by pumping blood where it doesn’t belong, causing the bleeding. The hope is that the hematoma will get big enough to occlude the artery. If the bleeding doesn’t stop or Tate becomes unstable with her labs or vitals, they’ll take her to surgery. Currently her labs are dropping but not rapidly. We were told once again that this isn’t something they’ve seen before…... An arteriovenous fistula is what the radiologist believes he’s seeing.
Hopefully tomorrow will bring a more solid plan once labs are updated and as to how long we wait to see if this will self resolve.
