It’s Tate’s Sweet 16th Birthday!
We had a really fun weekend with Aunt Jen visiting. Starting Thursday night, we saw a friend in a musical, Friday Jen treated Tate to a makeover at Sephora, Saturday was a recovery day and Sunday we had a fun evening at SeaQuest and a make your own pizza Birthday dinner with a Birthday candle that exploded confetti. Drew and Keira’s friend, Sadie, flew in Friday night to share in some of the memories. My heart was truly full this past weekend. Tate handled a couple hours at a time and is learning to soak in the joy amidst the yuck.
Today aunt Jen leaving brought some tears and Tate had some apprehension to starting her day as a 16 year old. She didn’t want to face another year being “sick.” And so many of the big milestones that come around this age just aren’t at her fingertips quite yet which is tough as a teen.
While Tate was still sleeping, my sweet friend Lisa brought Tate a sushi roll with a bow (seriously so cute!) and a church grandma and more church friends dropped off a gift. She received a flower delivery from Massiah’s in Toronto(Maggie!)and an Amazon package arrived. The kitchen was decorated and by the time Tate rallied for PT, and made it downstairs, her day was looking up.
Sweet Abby (PT) showed up with Tates favorite drink and got her outside for a wheelchair ride and to walk Bella. A neighbor Grandma who saw Tate out, brought out a crumbl cookie. Keira and Sadie took Tate out for a Birthday “Linner.”
I’m overwhelmed with all the love for our girl. Thank you. This morning, I watched a video of Tate on her Birthday last year while she was in the ICU. It’s a tough one as she was in full hallucinations from a med reaction as they were trying to manage her pain from the mucositis. I’m not sure I even posted that day as we didn’t feel much like celebrating. The hallucinations went on for days and Tate didn’t even realize it was her Birthday. We’re grateful to be through the acute portion of transplant as we keep stepping forward through all the chronic.
